Project Bread

OPPORTUNITY

Project Bread is a Boston-based nonprofit that fights food insecurity in underserved communities throughout Massachusetts.

Simply put, Project Bread acts as the middleman between individuals and the state—helping them obtain access to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, SNAP, benefits. But they do more than provide funds for groceries, Project Bread is rooted in the belief that all people should have dignified access to food. That means they also act as an advocate and government resource in the fight against hunger.

But while their mission has always been clear, their communications and marketing plan were not. The website was outdated and detailed a confusing sign-up process which necessitated the need for an in-house call center, which was both costly and draining to their internal team. They also lacked ways to properly communicate the importance of their work and SNAP benefits to governing officials. They were at risk of not only failing to reach out to the people who so desperately needed their help, but also in failing to ensure the benefits would continue to receive proper funding from the state. How do we get people excited to talk about, and join the fight against, food insecurity?
